We are closely following state guidelines and recommendations to do our best to safely offer interscholastic athletics or athletic alternatives to our students. We recognize that athletics is an important part of the Pingry experience and are closely aligning our program with external medical recommendations and guidelines from the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA), where applicable.
On July 10, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) announced that high school sports will follow a “Model 1–Delayed Fall Season.” Here is what that means for Pingry:
Official preseason practices will no longer start in August; instead, preseason for all sports will begin on September 14.
Summer session practices—separate from official preseason practices—may begin on July 13 and continue until August 29. These practices are voluntary and will follow appropriate Phase 1, Phase 2, or Phase 3 (not yet made public) guidelines as dictated by the NJSIAA. Coaches will inform team members of dates/times of these practices as well as any sport-specific guidelines for these sessions. Not all teams will practice.
From August 29–September 13, there will be a two week “dead period” in which no athletics practices, scrimmages, or games may occur so that schools and families can focus on re-entry to school. Only fall coaches are permitted to have virtual contact with their student-athletes during this period.
Any decision to move away from the “Model 1–Delayed Fall Season” will be made no later than the end of the summer recess period, August 28.
The table below outlines the new key dates to bear in mind for fall season sports.
